The Mid-South Region completed the very first USAPA Regional Tournament in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The tournament included young and old competing in a three day, tier 4 USAPA sanctioned tournament.
Comments from our Mid-South Ambassador, Tom Burkhart:
I want to thank all of the participants, volunteers, spectators, and
donors for their involvement in the first Mid-South Regional
Tournament. This was truly a team effort.
The 'social', held
the evening before competition began, was highlited by the announcement
of Maureen "Mo" Armstrong, as the first recipient of the Mid-South
Region Pickleball Pioneer award. The award is given for outstanding
service to the game of pickleball. (Read more about 'Mo' on this
website)
In three days, slightly over 100 players, from six
states, duked it out in doubles, mixed, and singles competition.
These were all double elimination matches. The quality of play was
high throughout the tournament. All champions in each division were
invited to participate in a 'Champion of Champions' one game match,
single elimination tournament. Needless to say, these matches were
full of pressure and fierce competition.
We are already looking
forward to planning next year's event. We hope to see all those who
participated this year and certainly invite those who were not able to
attend, to come and join the fun next year. -- Tom Burkhart
